What is Belarusian Interactive Catalogue of Fakes

The Belarusian Interactive Catalogue of Fakes is an online tool designed to explore false information and disinformation campaigns targeting Belarus. The Catalogue of Fakes was developed by the Belarusian Investigative Center (BIC) as part of their ongoing AntiFake News project, which has been gathering and examining false information campaigns since 2021.

The platform offers a comprehensive overview of the fake news landscape in Belarus, including visualizations and search functions to help users identify and understand disinformation tactics. It also provides insights into the media and individuals involved in spreading false narratives and allows users to explore specific examples of manipulation and distortion of information. This is a holistic view of how the propaganda machine works.

Will pensioners have their benefits taken away? An expert linked the Latvian reform to NATO’s plans and was wrong

NATO members plan to increase the defense budget by cutting pensions, expert Alexander Tishchenko said. He referred to a country considering introducing a “basic pension starting at almost 85.” The Weekly Top Fake team found that in one NATO member state they do intend to introduce such a payment, but as a supplement to the regular pension rather than a replacement, and the decision has no connection to defense.

Elite or those who could not get in? We fact-checked the official’s statement about contract students

Future elite of Belarusian enterprises — that is how the Education Ministry official described contract students. The Weekly Top Fake team verified those words against admission cutoff scores at three universities. It turned out that in most cases the "elite" scored lower than those admitted through the regular application process.
